Glossary Term: hymenectomy

Definition: A hymenectomy refers to a surgical procedure that carefully removes or opens the thin membrane partially covering the vaginal opening, known as the hymen, often performed to alleviate conditions such as imperforate hymen that restricts menstrual flow or to reduce discomfort during sexual intercourse.
